The Kylie Jenner lip phenomena. I shudder to type the words but not for the reasons you might think.
I'm totally in favour of a plumped up pout! I find to shame in admitting that I've tried everything to plump mine up a little. That said, I've never found myself left with extreme bruising or long lasting damage - and thats the way it should be! Fuller lips aren't that difficult to achieve, and with the application of a little common sense there is no reason anyone should be left in tears, or with a mouth that looks like it belongs on an episode of Gone Fishin'.
Below are my two favoured non-surgical plumping techniques.
The market is currently flooded with plumping glosses that offer a great temporary solution. They're usually clear formulas with elements of mint, cinnamon or capsicum. These elements boost blood flow to the lips and cause a mild swelling and redness. The effects last as long as the gloss is on the lips, and these products do not offer any long term benefit.
They often do cause a tingling or heating sensation on the lips which some people may find uncomfortable. I wouldn't recommend using this product several times every day as it may cause lips to dry out , but its perfect for one off special occasions.
My all time favourite plumping gloss is the Too Faced lip Injection Power Plumping Gloss. Its a long lasting gloss with immediate effects.
In the interest of full disclosure, above is a photograph of my lips the moment I removed the pump - before I applied lippy or concealer. As you can see, there is some mild irritation on the skin around the lips, but this goes away on its own in around 15 minutes. I used the green pump, which has two separate bottom chambers to give that line the middle of the bottom lip. There are pumps available without this feature.
The effect can last up to a few hours, and will last longer with more frequent use.
Dry brush the lips and make sure they're totally free of balm or gloss before use. Follow the instructions and leave the pump on your lips for up to two minutes, but absolutely no longer! Allow time for any redness to subside before applying concealer to effected area. You can then apply your favourite lipstick or gloss and you're good to go! (If I want extra va-voom I'll often apply a layer of plumping gloss as well!)
I've used the MAC lip liner in Spice paired with Rimmel Long Lasting Finish by Kate in shade 19.
Happy plumping, and please be safe!
